It
all started with a dream to be heard. But often, the big labels do
not give enough opportunity to the Independant Artist or Band. Sadly,
in today's Music Industry what it comes down to is marketability.
Somewhere along the way talent became secondary.Even though many Independant
Artists have incredible talent, the one thing they lack is EXPOSURE.
Without exposure, the greatest of sounds will go unheard.
That was the dilemma. Most of us didn't/don't have the funds to make
our music known. Equipment is expensive enough, not to mention recording.
Most of us have to buy our own makeshift home recording studio equipment
and make due. Even so, it is the musician's heart that makes it all
work in the end. But even with our home studios, somehow it
works and we are able to create the magic we call music. It is easy
to understand that promoting our work is the hardest and most expensive
part. How do we get heard on the radio? How do we sell our material?
How do we get known?
As Independant Artists, peddling our music is much harder than it
may seem. Radio stations (thanks to conglomerant giants like ClearChannel)
have very strict playlist guidelines and give very little air time,
much less attention, to unsigned, independant talent. Gigs are hard
to book and even harder to play in terms of travel and equipment expenses.
But even after all the time and hard work we still find that we are
virtually unknown.
But...
What if we Indie Artists
were to multiply our own individual efforts worldwide? One CD. Many
Artists. A Compilation unlike any that has ever been put forth before.
The first of its kind. One not aimed at making money, but at obtaining
exposure. If we can promote our own music, why not multiply our efforts
with other artists who are as passionate as ourselves? Instead of
100 people being exposed to just one band, it could be hundreds of
times that many people knowing about many artists worldwide!
Bands United was born.
Their band in Salt Lake City, your band in Toronto, that singer/songwriter
in Nashville, their band in Korea and so forth... Each Artist coming
together on one incredible Compilation. Then each doing their part
to promote the project. Radio stations, DJs, TV stations, fans and,
of course, the big labels pay attention to the buzz of many voices
united. Then soon...
INTERNATIONAL AIRPLAY!
Now what is obvious here? Some record label somewhere will be impressed
with one or two, if not all, of the artists involved in Bands United.
Someone involved will get signed. Then another and another. Even if
we are the least marketable, we figure "guilt by association".
If one artist or band becomes well known after being discovered on
a Compilation CD, the CDs name will become known. Thus the other artists
gain "exposure by association". It's inevitable: One of
us succeeds , the rest must follow. It is what we all want. It is
our dream to have our music be heard and be loved.
Then
something amazing happened...
